Conn Creek Introduces Herrick Red

New Wine Celebrates Winery's Cabernet Sauvignon Blending Expertise

ST. HELENA, CA -- Napa Valley winery Conn Creek has announced the introduction of a new wine, Herrick Red, to its family of acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux-styled wines. The inaugural 2007 vintage will release in September and be available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $18.

Founded in 1973 and located on Napa Valley’s famed Silverado Trail, Conn Creek has built its reputation on blending expertise, sourcing grapes from nearly all of Napa’s diverse sub-appellations to create wines that truly showcase “the best of Napa Valley.”

A Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend of classic Bordeaux-style varieties with a hint of Syrah, Herrick Red continues Conn Creek’s tradition of celebrating the diversity of Napa Valley. The result is a classic wine with a modern twist, sure to appeal to the adventurous wine drinker.

“According to AC Nielsen data, red blends are the fastest growing wine category nationwide, with the $15-25 price point up 15% in volume growth,” noted Sue Furdek, Director of Marketing for Conn Creek. “Given Conn Creek’s focus on Cabernet Sauvignon and expertise in blending, it seems only natural for us to offer consumers an affordable red blend that showcases some of Napa Valley’s top vineyards and diverse growing areas.”

Herrick Red is a tour of top Napa Valley vineyard sites in a bottle, including the longtime Conn Creek source vineyard in Yountville for which the wine is named and which forms the backbone of the blend. The 2007 vintage also incorporates fruit from St. Helena, Calistoga, Rutherford, Oak Knoll, Carneros, Mount Veeder, and Howell Mountain sub-appellations, each offering distinct characteristics and terroir to the final blend.

“Because we source from appellations across the Napa Valley, I am able to choose the very best of each varietal for our final blends,” said winemaker Mike McGrath. “Like our flagship Anthology red blend, Herrick Red showcases the blender’s art, and is a wonderful addition to our portfolio of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons.”

Visitors to Conn Creek can participate in the winery’s unique blending program for themselves through the hands-on AVA Room Blending Experience, where guests taste wine from each of Napa Valley’s sub-appellations, then blend their own bottle to take home.
