Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Receives “Napa Green” Program Certification
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars has become a “Napa Green Certified Land” and “Napa Green Certified Winery.“ These rigorous programs were developed by the Napa Valley Vintners to implement sound, sustainable practices for protecting and enhancing the ecological quality of the region. Of the 500+ wineries in Napa Valley, there are currently only 45 wineries certified under this voluntary program.
The Napa Green certification acknowledges Stag's Leap Wine Cellars as a conscientious Napa Valley producer, using best management practices to minimize water and energy use, and to maximize programs to reduce, reuse and recycle resources and materials.
“This is a great accomplishment that demonstrates the leadership and passion of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars team for preserving the legacy and sustaining the future of Napa Valley,” said General Manager Jeff McBride. “I want to personally recognize Lynn Jemison, our Safety Services Specialist, for spearheading this effort for our winery and Kirk Grace, our Vineyard Manager, for his tremendous land use efforts. The entire winery and viticulture team should take great pride in the work they’ve done to make this achievement possible.”

This program seeks to restore, protect and enhance the regional watershed. Plans are unique to each property and include restoration of wildlife habitat, developing healthy riparian environments and thorough sustainable agriculture practices. The certification is in partnership with several governmental bodies, including Fish Friendly Farming, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), and the Napa County Department of Agriculture’s Department of Pesticide Regulation.

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars received its certification through the Napa County Department of Environmental Management (DEM) and the Association of Bay Area Government’s (ABAG) Green Business Program. The program, established by the Napa Valley Vintners, includes a rigorous set of qualifications relative to environmental consciousness, quantifiable sustainable practices and conservation of precious resources.
Napa Green is an independent third party certification program to encourage and assist Napa Valley vintners and grape growers to implement beneficial and verifiable environmental practices through preserving and enhancing the environment of the Napa Valley, demonstrating a commitment to the community, and providing leadership for the wine industry.
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars will be honored by the Napa County Board of Supervisors with a proclamation on September 28th.
