Red Diamond Introduces Argentine Malbec

Fruit-forward, bold flavor profile of varietal fits Red Diamond pedigree

Red Diamond Winery has expanded its popular portfolio of premium wine with the introduction of its 2011 Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina. The wine released in February 2012 and is available nationally for a suggested retail price of $10 per bottle.

"We decided to add a Malbec from Argentina’s acclaimed vineyards because the lush, bold flavor profile fits the Red Diamond pedigree," said Marketing Manager David Griffiths.

Malbec thrives in Mendoza’s vineyards where the average elevation is more than 2,950 ft. At these heights, nighttime temperatures drop much lower than in other wine producing regions. The dramatic variation between day and nighttime temperatures helps develop rich, ripe flavors while retaining a balanced acidity.

"The varietal is also becoming increasingly popular among American consumers," continues Griffiths. "Malbec is by far the fastest growing red varietal out of the Top 12 table wines sold at retail."

Recent AC Nielsen analysis shows that Malbec sales have experienced double digit growth in both dollar (30.2%) and case sales (37.2%). Additionally Argentina dominates the Malbec category with more than 80% of the case volume.

The Red Diamond Malbec displays red berry aromas on the nose, and concentrated flavors of pomegranate and ripe berries on the palate. These characteristics are complemented by hints of vanilla on the long, balanced finish.

Red Diamond wines have been a favorite among consumers since their initial on-premise-only release in 2003; 25,000 cases were sold within the year and demand for the wines continued to increase. Today Red Diamond wines are distributed nationally in both on and off-premise channels and are still a favorite among consumers. For three consecutive years (2008 – 2010) Red Diamond has been awarded the “Hot Brand Award” by Impact magazine. Learn more about Red Diamond at reddiamondwine.com.
