Marchese Piero Antinori releases his latest book Tignanello – A Tuscan Story

Italy

Marchese Piero Antinori, 25th generation patriarch of the historic Antinori winemaking family, is proud to release Tignanello. A Tuscan Story (CinqueSensi – Officina Libraria / Publishers; Available for purchase starting August 31, 2015 via Amazon.com; $50.00; Hardcover). Tignanello. A Tuscan Story is Marchese Piero Antinori’s first-person look into the ideas, people, places and genesis of the revolutionary wine, Tignanello, which created the Super-Tuscan wine category and has become one of the best-known Italian labels in the world.

The story of Tignanello – which was created in the heart of the Chianti Classico region of Italy – begins more than 40 years ago when Marchese Piero Antinori shocked the Italian wine world with the first release of a red blend aged for the first time in barriques using the malolactic fermentation technique. In 1975, for its second vintage, white grapes were eliminated from the blend and the traditional Sangiovese grape was mixed with international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon. The bold and innovative choice came at time when the Italian winemaking industry was focused on quantity rather than quality. Marchese Piero Antinori wanted to change this and did so with Tignanello: a unique Tuscan wine for the time, which has since been universally lauded as having marked a new and exciting course for the future of Italian wine.

The Antinori family has been involved in the production of wine for over six centuries, starting in 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori entered as a member, the "Arte Fiorentina,” the Winemakers' Guild of the city of Florence. With a 630 year-old legacy, Marchese Piero Antinori’s narrative delivers a precise history of a great innovator.
