Washington’s Domaine Ste. Michelle A Winner in Back-to-Back World Series Championships
Woodinville, Wash.
For the second year in a row, Washington state’s Domaine Ste. Michelle sparkling wine was the bubbly of choice in the World Series championship. The Philadelphia Phillies honored their first World Championship win in a quarter- century with bottles of Domaine Ste. Michelle sparkling wine during their jubilant locker room celebration. Last year the Boston Red Sox celebrated their 2007 World Series championship with Domaine Ste. Michelle as well.
Not only have bottles of Domaine Ste. Michelle been visible in photos of Phillies players dousing each other in the locker room, but the sparkling wine also has been cited in several articles about the World Series.
The coverage has been particularly exciting for Rick Casquiero, Domaine Ste. Michelle’s winemaker.
“It’s been great,” he says. “Many of the articles actually mentioned Domaine Ste. Michelle by name, so this is a huge score for us.”
This adds up to a lot of national exposure for the brand, according to Jan Barnes, Marketing Director Domaine Ste. Michelle.
“It’s always hard to tell what the impact is, but certainly there was a large audience watching these games and seeing all of the articles the next day,” says Barnes. “It’s great visibility for the brand leading into the all important holiday season.”
After watching the World Series final game, Casquiero said with a laugh that, “The Domaine Ste. Michelle bottles appeared to have been properly chilled because the sparkling wine had good pressure when it was being sprayed.”
Winemaker, Rick Casqueiro, crafts Domaine Ste. Michelle French-style sparkling wines from premium European grape varieties grown in Washington state’s Columbia Valley using the classic méthode champenoise.
