Chateau Ste. Michelle Debuts “Online Cookbook” and Mobile Wine & Food Pairing Guide

At Chateau Ste. Michelle, enjoying wine with food is as important as crafting a great bottle of wine. To help wine lovers and “foodies” enhance their enjoyment of wine, the Washington winery has created an innovative and extensive “online cookbook” of recipes on its website www.ste-michelle.com, a wine and food pairing mobile application for smart phones www.ste-michelle.com/mypairings, and shares its Culinary staff recipes on Facebook www.ste-michelle.com/facebook.

Based on the deep knowledge and experience of Chateau Ste. Michelle Culinary Director John Sarich, and Executive Chef Janet Hedstrom, the more than two hundred recipes (and growing) are searchable by “style” (Asian, Latin, Mediterranean, Pacific Northwest, or Classic Cuisine) or by “course” (Appetizer, Soup, Salad, Pasta & Rice, Vegetarian, Fish & Seafood, Meat and Dessert). Each recipe features several wine pairing suggestions.

“We wanted to inspire people and make it easy for them to have a great food and wine experience in their own home,” says Executive Chef Janet Hedstrom. “Here in the winery kitchen we are constantly experimenting with new recipes and pairings and it has been fun to share our creations with our fans using these new tools.”

In addition to the new web-based recipe database, the winery also offers an innovative food and wine and food pairing mobile application program for smart phones, so it can be used either for planning meals at home or when in a retail environment. The “My Pairings” application serves as a digital sommelier, providing insightful food and wine pairing recommendations. But unlike many other pairing guides, Chateau Ste. Michelle’s is designed to help users understand how the sensory qualities of foods and wines interact. My Pairings highlights the flavors typically found in food from various regions, and explains which wines best accentuate those flavors. Instead of simply memorizing pairing “rules,” users learn to develop the skills to make truly inspired pairings of their own creation. The winery kitchen staff also shares their recipes on Chateau Ste. Michelle’s official Facebook page weekly for its “Wine and Food Pairing Wednesday” feature.
Although the online recipe database, mobile pairing guide and Facebook features were designed to offer recipes and parings in a highly accessible way, the culinary team’s favorite way to share its recipes is in person at the winery’s seasonal chef dinners and culinary events.
