Red Diamond and 14 Hands Named Impact Magazine’s “Hot Brands” for 2009
Paterson, Wash.
Two Ste. Michelle Wine Estates' brands, Red Diamond and 14 Hands, were named "Impact Hot Brands" for 2009 in the March 1 & 15, 2010 issue of Impact magazine. Red Diamond was named a Hot Brand for the third consecutive year, and 14 Hands received its second consecutive award.
This year, 29 wine brands and 20 spirits brands were named 2009 Impact Hot Brands. The criteria for this industry award included: established brand with double-digit growth each year in 2007, 2008 and 2009, established brand with at least 15% growth in 2008-2009, special consideration – top 10 brands with at least 5% growth in 2009 and at least 15% growth since 2006, and a significant new product.
"As a company, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates has been among the market’s best performers of late..." states the magazine.
...Looking back at the adverse conditions of 2009 it is easy to see these Hot Brands as some of the most impressive performers in the recent years. These brands not only capture the pulse of the market, they solidify it as the most dynamic drinks venue in the world, one that is capable of enduring even the hardest times."
The Red Diamond phenomenon began in 2003 when the Merlot was released to limited markets, targeting restaurants only. The response was immediate: 25,000 cases were sold within the year. The demand for Red Diamond continued to grow and consumers began looking for the wine after tasting it in restaurants. To satisfy consumer demand, Red Diamond introduced three additional wines – Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Shiraz – to the portfolio and increased distribution for all products to stores and restaurants nationwide. Red Diamond wines showcase Washington state's distinctive flavor profile with layers of luscious, fruit-forward flavors. These are food-friendly, straightforward wines designed for approachability and easy drinking.
Crafted exclusively for restaurants, the 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay were released in 2005. Soon after the release consumers across the U.S. began to request that the wines be made available for purchase in retail. In November 2006, 14 Hands wines were made available for sale at select wine shops and online at 14hands.com. 14 Hands wines are crafted from premium grapes in the heart of Washington state. Named after the wild horses that once made their home on the land upon which 14 Hands grapes are grown, the wine retains the individual spirit of its namesake.
