Chateau Ste. Michelle Harvests Ice Wine!

Woodinville, Wash.

A cold snap in Eastern Washington this week allowed Chateau Ste. Michelle to harvest Ice Wine grapes on Saturday, November 15th at the winery’s Horse Heaven Vineyard in Paterson, Washington in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. When temperatures dropped to 6 degrees Fahrenheit around 3 am in the morning, crews picked Riesling grapes that were frozen solid (at 45 degrees Brix).

Columbia Crest has Donated Approximately 2,800,000 Meals to Food Banks in Four Years

Just in time for the holiday season, Columbia Crest Winery is participating in the Sharing Joy, Sharing Meals program at retail stores nationwide, continuing the winery’s commitment to feeding those in need. This is the fourth year that the winery will donate to food banks across the country. Columbia Crest will donate up to $75,000 in 2014 and has donated $400,000 to food banks over four years (approximately 2,800,000 meals served).

Chateau Ste. Michelle head winemaker Bob Bertheau and white winemaker Wendy Stuckey were recently honored as “20 Most Admired Winemakers” by Vineyard & Winery Management Magazine. According to the publication, Vineyard & Winery Management launched the “20 Most Admired” issue “to shine a much-deserved spotlight in the North American wine industry.” The nominating committee was comprised of respected winemakers, grapegrowers, wine writers, educators, buyers, sommeliers and consultants across North America.

Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Canoe Ridge Estate red winery in Eastern Washington recently earned rigorous third party LIVE sustainability certification. The winery’s vineyard at Canoe Ridge Estate is also LIVE and Salmon Safe certified, making it the first winery in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA to receive both the estate vineyard and winery certifications.

Michelle is partnering with Washington restaurants to support the seventh annual "Raise a Glass, Fund a Scholarship" program to benefit Viticulture and Enology programs at Washington State University and other Northwest universities. More than 200 restaurants will participate in the "Raise A Glass, Fund a Scholarship" program which runs now through the end of December 2014.

Chateau Ste. Michelle Announces the Passing of Beloved and Legendary Culinary Director Chef John Sarich

It is with deep sadness that we share that on Sunday, October 5th we lost a beloved and legendary member of the Chateau Ste. Michelle family, our Culinary Director John Sarich. John passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family after battling a rare and aggressive form of thyroid cancer. John was a devoted father to his sons Biagio and Dominic and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Officially Opens New FAY Outlook & Visitor Center With Sweeping Views of its Historic Estate Vineyards

Napa, California

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, one of Napa Valley’s most iconic wineries, has officially opened the doors to its new FAY Outlook & Visitor Center. Beginning today, winery visitors will taste in the elegant and modern new space while enjoying sweeping views of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars historic estate vineyards – FAY and S.L.V.

At an official grand opening ceremony yesterday, winery principals Ted Baseler (President and CEO of Ste. Michelle Wine Estates), Steve Spadarotto (General Manager, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars) and Marcus Notaro (Winemaker, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars) were joined by Barcelona-based designer Javier Barba and local architect Dan Macdonald and team to reveal and celebrate the beautiful new space. Other dignitaries in attendance included Paris Tasting Winemaker Warren Winiarski and his wife Barbara who founded the winery in 1970, Steven Spurrier, who organized the 1976 Paris Tasting, George M. Taber, who wrote the 2005 Judgment of Paris: California vs France and the 1976 Paris Tasting That Revolutionized Wine, and Stags Leap District winery neighbors.

Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Canoe Ridge Estate Winery Installs New State-of-the-Art Reserve Cellar

Woodinville, Wash.

As part of an ongoing commitment to continually elevate wine quality, Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Canoe Ridge Estate red winery in Eastern, Washington built a new Reserve Cellar featuring state-of-the art sorting and fermentation equipment. The new Reserve Cellar began production in early September at the start of the 2014 Washington harvest.

The Reserve Cellar is built within the Canoe Ridge Estate red wine facility employing cutting edge technology to gently handle fruit and minimize impurities for Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Single Vineyard and Ethos Reserve Wines.

Columbia Crest Winery Upgrades with New Removal System and Sorting Equipment

2014 Marks an Earlier but Promising Harvest at the Winery

Just in time for an early harvest season, Columbia Crest Winery is producing some of its first wine vintages using a new state-of-the art removal and sorting system, becoming one the first wineries in the U.S. to use this type of technology at this scale. The first wines to go through new equipment are Columbia Crest’s 2013 vintage wines, which started to release in the summer of 2014 (for the white wines).
